Speakers

The Women Working in Corrections and Juvenile Justice (WWICJJ) conference is coming to the beautiful West Coast October 8-11, 2023. The conference will be hosted by the Oregon Department of Corrections (DOC) in Portland, Oregon! DOC is pleased to host the 2023 conference, we are looking forward to a fun, informative, and successful event.

The first WWICJJ national conference was in 1985 and is held every odd-numbered year in a different state. The theme of the 2023 conference is “Stronger Together.” Workshops will be held to address organizational transformation and speakers will provide training to help women transcend gender-related occupational barriers and become effective leaders. We are expecting a large, enthusiastic crowd of corrections and juvenile justice professionals from across the United States to attend and share in the WWICJJ experience.

At this time, we are looking for breakout speakers for this exciting conference. All speakers who are interested in being considered must complete the application no later than February 1, 2023.

We are looking for speakers for a variety of relevant topics on corrections and juvenile justice topics. Some relevant topics may include leadership, medical, mental health, safety and security, promising practices/creative strategies in corrections and juvenile justice, lessons learned, issues specific to women in corrections/juvenile justice, wellness, and many more!

Evaluation Process:

Each Call for Speaker submission should include information on the topic of presentation, amount of time requested, compensation requested, and a bio of the speaker(s)/credentials that shows level of knowledge and expertise in the session topic. Submissions may include links to previously recorded presentations, but it is not mandatory.

Submitting a proposal does not guarantee acceptance. Session proposals will be reviewed based on the factors listed above along with ensuring a variety of relevant topics.

Speakers who are selected will be contacted via email by the conference committee. Once selected, the speaker will work with the conference committee to finalize the conference schedule and day/time the speaker will be scheduled. Speakers may be asked to sign a speaker agreement.
