Conference attendees are invited to visit historic Folsom State Prison Oct. 16 during a three-hour excursion hosted by the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. The free event will include transportation from the Hyatt Regency Hotel (buses depart at 5 p.m.), a two-hour concert by the popular Sacramento band The Nickel Slots (pictured above left), access to the Folsom Prison Museum, terrific photo opportunities and appetizers courtesy of the nearby Folsom Women’s Facility California Prison Industry Authority’s culinary program (meatballs, stuffed mushrooms, bruschetta, grilled shrimp, grilled vegetables, potato skins). Attendees will also be provided transportation back to the Hyatt Regency Hotel.

The Folsom Museum is located near the entrance of Folsom State Prison. Run solely through the support of volunteers, the museum contains an abundance of documents and artifacts from throughout Folsom’s long and colorful history, including two concerts that Johnny Cash performed at Folsom State Prison in 1968. He also performed a concert at the prison in 1966, but it was not recorded.
